Frequently Asked Questions
YES! We like to have rooms available for students attending classes, but our rooms are open to people who just want to stay and enjoy the lodge and property. If you see a room available on our calendar, it’s yours to book.
No. If you live locally, or choose to seek lodging elsewhere, that’s great too - we’re just excited that you chose to join a class! If our rooms are fully booked, or you want to stay elsewhere, please feel free to contact us for alternative local lodging suggestions.
The length of class time depends on the class being offered. Refer to the class description for an estimated time for the class.
Our classes are generally intended for adults. Young adults of 16 to 18 years old accompanied by a parent or guardian may attend any of our classes unless otherwise stated. If a parent or guardian is attending, but is not participating in the class, they may attend at no charge. We may offer special classes for children younger than 16 (accompanied by a parent or guardian) in conjunction with special events. Please see the class schedule and our social media pages for upcoming opportunities!

Because of the sometimes-hazardous nature of working with tools, The Sunrise Workshop reserves the right to address any distracting or dangerous behavior by any student at any time. If a student is asked by an instructor to stop or change a behavior, the student will be allowed to resume the class. If the behavior is not corrected, the owners will ask the student to remove themselves from the class. In this case, no refunds will be issued. It is the intent of The Sunrise Workshop, its owners, instructors, and staff, to provide a SAFE, enjoyable, and fun learning environment for ALL students. Your cooperation is expected.
Staying at a B&B varies from place to place, but generally, you would have a room, a common bathroom, access to common areas for recreation or relaxation, and breakfast served at a predetermined time. Here at The Sunrise Workshop, we have three rooms, two (common) full baths, an indoor dining area, an indoor relaxation area, an outdoor patio, a hot tub, and the woods to explore. Breakfast will be served at a designated time in the dining area.
No, nope, & not happening! While, yes, you are staying at our house and we have some expectations on quiet time, check out, etc, we can be engaged or distant, whatever works for you. Want to share a glass of wine? Sure, we might already be sipping one! Want to chat for a few minutes on the way in or out? Yep, we love to do that! Want to just go to your room and skip the chit-chat? No problem, all you’ll get is a wave from us if we are around (we have a social and private life too).
In short, we don’t have a lot of rules or expectations other than that you treat our place with respect and be kind & mindful to the other guests around you. Be aware, there ARE rules that MUST be followed for our animals and your safety.
Farm rules: For safety, DO NOT open any gates, climb over fences, or enter where the animals are. The animals may get out and go into the road. Our animals may not want to come out of the barn if it is too hot, too cold, buggy, or if they are eating. If you want to see them and if they do not come when called, ask us to get them out for you. Understand, these are farm animals, not petting zoo animals. If you choose to enter the animal areas when provided an opportunity by staff members or instructors, you do so at your own risk and we are not responsible for injury or damage to personal property.
All of The Sunrise Workshop is a “Guest pet” free area. In order to respect those with allergies, and maintain a clean and healthy lodging area, our rooms, dining areas, and indoor recreation areas are animal-free. In order to reduce unwanted stress for our animals, we kindly ask that you leave your pets at home while attending classes or staying with us. Certified service dogs are welcome on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us if you have a service dog, so we may make appropriate arrangements for the accommodation of your service dog.
You’ve picked a great place to explore! If you’re here for the peace and quiet but also have a desire to head out for a little exploration, we’ve got you covered. Less than a mile is an entrance to Wild River State Park, with access to both the St. Croix River and Sunrise River. A little further down the road is the Taylors Falls and St, Croix Falls recreation areas. Wild Mountain Ski and Waterpark is close for some fun in both the winter and summer. Dotting the landscape are many wineries, craft breweries, restaurants, and bars. Feel free to ask us for suggestions and recommendations.
